Synthesising & considering how to present your information!

You have started organising and analysing the information and resources you collected in week 2 and maybe in week 3...to see what is relevant. At this point you can discard information you do not need, and decide that maybe you need to find out more things you have missed.

While organising and analysing it is a time for synthesising
.. putting your
understanding in your own
words..sharing your knowledge and drawing conclusions.

At the moment a lot of you have a big pile of information you have collected and some of you have started answering key questions...So let`s focus and make connections..Let`s be creative to synthesise and bring together what we have
.. to reach the goal of our inquiry....ACTION!
What should we do?..

Revisit the inquiry cycle..and..

  • Evaluate the resources you have collected and key questions

- Have you collected sufficient information?
- Have you used a variety of resources to collect all the information?
- Have you extracted useful information from the resource you collected?
--if a text... by highlighting and writing the main idea in your own words.
--If a video or image..by stating what the purpose--what you want to show with this
--If an interview of an expert..by writing questions and answers and then drawing
conclusions about it.
-Is it clear which key question or line of inquiry you are addressing when you extract
information from your resources?
-Have you answered all the key questions with sufficient information?

-Have you cited the exact source with each resource you use?..and on the wiki who is
contributing with each source..this is useful to self-evaluate your participation in group
work.
-Have you thought of how you are going to present all this information. Do you have a
variety within your presentation? There are so many possible products and performances.
Check out the list you got at the beginning of the year!
-Do you know you will only have approximately 20 min for your presentation?

  • Evaluate the connection of your problem with the central idea:As human beings we have the responsibility to propose solutions to the problems around us in order to build a better world.

-Are you focusing on a LOCAL ISSUE?
-Is your problem meaningful to everyone around you?
-Have you thought of possible solutions to help the problem you are
presenting?

  • Evaluate your lines of inquiry
-Are you following what you set out to do in the first place?
- Are you making connections between all the information you have and are gathering to
reach new understandings and follow your lines of inquiry?
-Have you got side tracked from the objective? If so what can we do to get back on track?
-Are your lines of inquiry heading in the right direction or do you need to modify any of
them to suit the purpose of the inquiry?

  • Evaluation leads to action!..which is the goal of your inquiry!
- Have you thought which action you will take to present a solution for your problem?
- Have you planned how you will carry out this action and not only present an idea of an
action?
- Is your action feasible, is it possible to carry out?
